Renewals & Reinstatements

License renewal

A renewal notice is emailed to every licensee about two months prior to the expiration date as a reminder that the license expiration date is approaching. The Utah Insurance Department has mandated electronic renewal applications. Paper renewals are no longer accepted.

Required continuing education (CE) must be completed prior to license renewal.

Electronic renewal is available 24/7 until 10 pm Mountain time on the date of expiration.

Please note that the renewal letter received is not a renewal application.

All appointments and designations will be canceled effective the expiration date if the license is not renewed.

If you answer ‘yes’ to any of the application background questions, please submit the required documentation to the Department. Documents should be submitted electronically using either SIRCON or the NIPR Attachment Warehouse.

All CE must be posted by the provider before a renewal will be processed. Time must be allowed for this process, therefore we recommend not waiting until the last minute to renew the license.

Fingerprints are not required for renewals.

License reinstatement

A licensee that fails to renew a license before the expiration date is entitled to reinstate that license for a period of one year from the expiration date. Beginning July 1, 2009, the Utah Insurance Department has mandated electronic processing of reinstatements using SIRCON or NIPR.

Required continuing education (CE) must be completed prior to license renewal.

Reinstatements are available 24/7 from the 4th day after inactivation to 365 days after.

All CE must be posted by the provider before a reinstatement will be processed. Time must be allowed for this process, therefore we recommend not waiting until the last minute to renew the license.

Fingerprints are not required for reinstatements.

A licensee is responsible for notifying insurance companies he or she is appointed with, and agencies he or she is designated with, of the reinstatement of his or her license and request a new appointment or designation. A reinstated agency is also responsible for reinstating all designees to its license.

After reinstatement of an inactive license, the reinstated license will expire on the same date it would have expired had the license not become inactive.

A licensee who fails to reinstate an inactive license within one year of the inactivation date may not apply for reinstatement and must apply for a new license as a new applicant. Please see Exam & Licensing Procedures.
